There are a few. First there is Nam 75 for the NEO Geo, which is the only game with infinite continues I can't beat. Deadly Towers, Heroes of the Lance, and the already mentioned NES games round out the tough 8 bit crowd. T2 the arcade game, 7th Saga, and Contra Hard Corps are some of the 16 bit crowd. Devil May Cry 3, Ninja Gaiden, and Guitar Hero are called hard for these days, but none of those were all that hard with practice.
