  • Depends on what you are good at because there are a number of different disciplines(i.e. designers, artists, programmers, produces, QA). You'll need to figure that out before you get started. The way I got started(I'm a programmer), was through making a game that was picked as a top game in the IGF student competition. Doing that gets you recognized really fast. At the time I did that, I was already mostly done with a computer science degree and had made a number of small 2D and 3D games. Programming is very math and logic oriented, so you'll need to be good(and actually somewhat enjoy) that stuff before you go down that path. These days I use mainly C++ for development on the big consoles if you're curious about what language to learn. One thing to know though is that playing video games is one thing, but making them is not nearly as sexy. Lots of late nights, long hours, and mediocre compensation. over 3 years ago
