Atari pulls out of E3 - is this a precursor to the end of Atari (again)?

It's easy to think that Atari may go under based on its announcement to not show at E3, but if Atari IS going under, there would be far more "precursors" than just pulling out of E3.

Blizzard pulled out of E3...and I know they're not ending anytime soon.

Fact is, E3 is recovering from its horrible outings the last 2 years. Many companies pulled out of the ESA last year because they were literally wasting millions of dollars for nothing. Some companies may just be cautious and want to see what this year's E3 has to offer before going back.

Or they're rerouting their advertising money into game development, which is still a smart move.

  1. Honestly, I believe so. It seems as if they're embarrassed that they can't make it, which means they didn't have too much to show in the first place. Of course, there could be more forces at work than are readily apparent. Maybe they're just biding their time in order to make some kind of big comeback.

  2. Well when you are producing games like My Horse and Me...you know that you went wrong somewhere. But seriously, I don't think any of their big name titles panned out for them as they would have liked. I haven't played the new Riddick, and having been a big fan of the first one, I still haven't looked in to the new one. I guess they are really banking on Ghostbusters pulling in a big crowd of fans. All I can think of is the most recent Alone in the Dark and how it tanked so hard, I think that has been Atari's story for a while now.

  3. Wow it seems like just a couple years ago at E3 Atari bought a massive banner that basically took over the entire front entrance of the LA Convention Center. Guess those days are over.

If you think about it what reason does Atari have to go to E3? It would cost them a lot of money to show the few games they have. They'd be better off just doing a small press tour later in the year with whatever games they have.

  4. I thought they were already stopped, the way I read it, must have changed plans or the journalist was misinformed. After bungling Alone in the Dark, probably their best chance at taking a franchise and running with it, they've probably done themselves a mischief and harmed their future chances.
