Why do you think gaming is socially acceptable for dudes, but less so for girls?
Best Answer
I don't.
To me there is really no difference.. what does gender have to do with gaming, anyway? Maybe it's less common for girls to play games (though I find that debatable as well these days).
I know some people don't think it's socially acceptable for ANYONE to play games, but other than that...

I think most girls get perceieved as gaming to not be 'socially acceptable'. Guys don't ever really need to be socially accepted but girls tend to need to feel that way. I think most guys just don't care where as girls do. Gotta put your 'mall' time in I guess.

I don't think this was ever the case. I think it was just known that guys play video games more than girls do, but gaming companies have always tried to get girls to play games. With all the different types of games coming out, I think more girls are playing games that aren't just killing each other in war games or playing sports. I think every guy would rather have their girlfriends or wives playing with them so it is ok for them to spend all their time playing games.

I think that makes a little bit of sense, but not completely. Most girls wont play Call of Duty, but a lot of girls play games like Rock Band. And it depends what kind of girl too.

I've never gotten the impression that it wasn't socially acceptable for girls to play video games. It's been my experience that most guys wish more girls did play video games.

I think it's getting more and more socially acceptable for girls. Just like the dude stereotype (sweaty, dweeby, non-showering, cheesy-poofeating, etc.) is getting to be less and less the norm. Many couples play game together and I know quite a few women who like everything from casual games to shooters.

I wouldn't say socially "acceptable".. more like unexpected. it's kindof become something you generalize with guys.
I prefers my woman folk to play the X-itty boxes and the gamestation three *in a redneck undertone*
