What does the Wolf form do in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night?

For some reason I started playing this game again and I can't for the life of me figure out why you'd ever want to use the wolf form. Is there a part of the game where it's required?

There are some areas that are too low to get under unless you turn into the wolf. Also, after a while you'll get an upgrade for the wolf that lets you do a long jump, which'll be useful for clearing large gaps, in the castle wall area if I remember right.

  2. It's good for going really fast and doing long jumps, although you could use either of the other forms for the distance... so mainly the going under small areas and speed attacks. I think it let you go right through your enemy. Plus it was cool looking...
