Do you feel like dropping over $100 on a game is worth it?

I really want to get Tony Hawk's Ride but $120 is pretty steep. Do you think prices like this are worth it?

It depends entirely on the game. I personally wouldn't spend that kind of money on a Tony Hawk game, but I did spend that kind of money on Rock Band, and I've also bought several hundred dollar consoles just to play a single game.

  1. If the game is fun and enjoyable, absolutely. Rockband costs near 200 dollars, and the Beatles version of it will be 250. Will the price keep people from buying it? Inevitably. Will it be worth it? If you enjoy music games, definitely. I think it depends on a person's disposable income and how good the game is. If Tony Hawk totally blows, no. But if it's one of the most intuitive games this year, why not?

  3. It depends. It you just get the disc with the software on it and thats it, then its not worth it. If its like rock band where you get the entire band then absolutely its worth it.

  4. Not really, but with the way it is going we are only a couple of generations away from having standard games cost as much as $100.

  5. I don't think I would ever pay $100 just for a game, but for a game and some special controller that is worth it and makes the game play a better experience, then yes. I didn't think I would shell out the money for guitar hero until I played the game and then I wanted to have it. Same thing for Rock Band, I thought no way that's stupid, then I played it and now I have that also.

So there is NO WAY I'm going to buy this stupid skateboard. I'll probably have it before x-mas.

  6. Don't know TH games from a hole in the ground and no idea what said game is. There are only 2 factors in this equation:

    1). Can you afford it?
2). Are you going to get $120 of gaming from it?

The first is admittedly obvious but the second is deceptive. If you're going to XX (or preferably XXX) hours of gaming out of it then it's worth multiples of games which you only get 12-20 hours out of and are then finished with. If it's about a peripheral then you really need to ask yourself whether that peripheral is worth the money, to me no peripheral is worth shelling out cash for.

  7. I thought that paying for something like Rock Band wasn't going to be worth it, but I was wrong. Rock Band 2 alone was $190, plus $50 for a Guitar Hero III guitar, and $5 to download the Rock Band songs. If you also add all the downloaded songs I bought, I've spent way more than I would imagine. To me it has all been worth it. At parties and just gathering with friends, everyone has a good time with it.

I'm not sure about Tony Hawk's Ride, but I believe this where some of the gaming is heading. We are going pay for more toys to make the gaming experience more realistic. I think for anyone you just have figure on the replay value of any game you buy.

  9. Depends on the game.

For something like TH, I'd wait for reviews or a demo at a store before even thinking of purchasing it.

Games like Rock Band, DDR, and even Para Para Paradise can easily appeal to wider audiences cause there's a strong music value to it and is easy to introduce at parties, giving it high replay value. So having a price tag so high seems a little more appropriate. Still, it was a risk when they were originally brought in.

However, not everyone knows how to skate. And there's not much party value watching someone hop around on a skateboard with no wheels.

It may be a great game, but I don't see justifying the purchase unless you're 1) a skateboard enthusiast and 2) certain the game is worth your time.

  10. Pizza Economy. Is one video game worth.. oh, let's be generous.. 7 pizzas? Large, warm, mouth watering pizzas? Will you get the enjoyment out of the game that you would eating those pizzas? Do you know the game doesn't suck from word of mouth from people who already own it and play it - that is, is the quality of the game equal to the quality of the pizzas?

If yes, yes. If no, pizza. Pizza Economy. (All credit to Iceciro, my friend, who is the original creator of Pizza Economy.)

  11. It’s worth the money if you think it is worth the money.

If it’s a game you haven’t played yet, you might want to read a review, or try out a demo. It’s usually a hassle to try and return a video game. Best case scenario, you’ll only receive store credit.

Things will cost what they cost, if you want to wait for a price drop, go for it, but that’s a long wait usually. I’ve spent $100, or more on Guitar Hero 3 Bundle (at release), Street Fighter 4 – Tournament Edition Fight Stick, and (almost $100 on) Street Fighter 4 Collector’s Edition.

Do I regret any of my purchases? No, because to me, it was worth the money.
