What do you think makes or breaks aconsole?
Such as wii lacking hardware? or 360s red ring of death? Ps3 and 360 sharing alot of games but ps3 not having as much exclusives..till recently..
Best Answer
There are many different factors...
-Hardware: Just because it's the most advanced doesn't mean it's going to dominate the market. People get this fact wrong ALL the time. Also, the difficulty of coding a console also falls under here. Some companies will not make games because it's too difficult to code.
-Price: Sure, the Wii was a buffed out Gamecube, but how could you go wrong with a cheap new console? Wonder why people cheered when Sony FINALLY reduced the price on their PS3? In these times, price IS important.
-3rd party support: People have mentioned this and I agree. 3rd party support is crucial to a console's success.
-Reputation: Why are people are die-hard company supporters? Cause in their heads, that company can do no wrong...even when they make a crap product
-Timing: The release of the PS2 in the early stages of the DVD was NOT a coincidence.
-Innovation: The PS2 came with a DVD player. Every Nintendo console completely changed their controller.

That's a good question. There really are too many variables. But, the main culprit would have to be 3rd party titles. which is what slowly killed nintendo's 64 and Gamecube. even that is a wide spreading reason. As there are reasons why developers do or do not make games for some systems. Nintendos case was they didn't want to compete with Nintendos unstoppable 1st party games in combo with there "cutsy" image.
Sega's Dreamcast was easy to pirate for.. AND, Sega's tarnished image from the 32x, Sega CD, and Saturn. caused the Dreamcast to flounder.
The Hardware makers (Nintendo, MS, and Sony.) historically, sell there consoles at a loss for the 1st couple years. They get there money from the games. if no games are coming out and if people aren't buying them. Then financially, There forced to pull the plug.

What makes or breaks a console has nothing to do with hardware (well, maybe except memory). What makes or breaks it is the games produced for the console. Hardware has no point if the games are lacking something, whether its gameplay, story, or something else.

In my opinion two things make or break a system. Those would be the games produced for that system and the company's policy on backing up their work. Sure, the PS3 doesn't get the red ring of death. However, if something on your PS3 jacks up, Sony is gonna charge you just to look at it and more chrages are incurred to repair it. Your 360 may go down for a couple weeks but Microsoft will FIX THE PROBLEM FOR FREE and send it back to you. Even if it happens again. Wii's are invaluable objects to have should you be a family oriented individual, a party thrower or you just really get into your gaming. The choice is essentially yours but try them out and ask for policy info before buying.
