Is this game worth the wait?
I already got the Orange Box once, but I only played Portal, I didn't even look at the other two games that were on the disk. Now I'm on a Team Fortress 2 kick and really want to play it, when I found out that that was one of the other games coupled with Portal I was upset because it took me a month to get The Orange Box which by now I have already returned.
So is Team Fortress 2 worth the possible month long wait?

I'd say just download Steam. Team Fortress 2 is free to play on there, and all things considered the system requirements aren't very high. Also, the PC version has got a ton of updates that completely change the game (for the better) that the console versions never got. For example, the PC version has loot drops that give you items equipable on your character, which aren't in the console versions, as well as tons of new maps and other basic FPS update stuff.
Though if you have to go with the console version, you might as well just put Orange Box at the top of your queue and keep other games you want under it, so you get it when it's available. Or just buy a used copy, I think those go for $10 - $20.

Don't get it on console. No one plays it.
