In Borderlands, will an item that has +200% melee damage on it benefit Brick's melee strikes in Berserk mode?

eventhough he is using his fists?

While using a weapon with melee damage, you'll notice Brick doesnt do his normal melee, but instead melees using the weapon. So the +melee damage only works with the actual weapon (because it has a blade on it or something), and it doesn't just add +melee damage in general.
