Which Resident Evil game should I play to get into the series?
Once again, I come to you all with a plea for help. Like the other 4 times (I think I have enough of these questions to create a segment, but I'm not gonna do it) I also want to get into Resident Evil. It looks like a really cool game, and of course it would expand my horizon on Capcom. Gameplay footage looks really fun, too. Only problem, I don't know where to start.
Also, I heard that this game is similar to Silent Hill. Could you tell me what similarities and differences there are between the 2 franchises. I wanna know, because everyone knows I also wanna get into Silent Hill and want to know what makes the 2 unique.

Definitely start with Resident Evil 4. The older games are classic, but to be honest, the controls and camera of those games have aged terribly. Resident Evil 4 brought survival horror back to relevancy in 2005 and the genre has been doing better since. Honestly, the 6 year old game feels like a game that could have been made recently, gameplay- wise at least. I've played the game fairly recently and I can say it doesn't feel old at all. You can easily rent it right here on this site. Resident Evil 4 is the game to start with for a new Resident Evil fan. I would know.

There are two angles you can start the series from. If you start with RE Zero which was on the GC you will get the beginning of the story. But if you start with RE 1 then play RE Zero you will have a better understanding of the overall significance of the game.
If I was in your shoes I would do it in this order
RE1
RE Zero
RE2
RE3
RE Code Veronica
RE 4
RE 5If you do this you will get a full grasp of the overall story. The spin off games you don't need to worry much about unless you get into the cannon of the story and want more pieces.

Im not sure what systems you have because most of them are on "older" systems. If you have a way to play retro games(ps1,ps2) I would play
re 1
re 2
re3
code veronica
re4 (I think its the best one)
I dont know if I would bother with re5 because it is not really a re game.
The new re coming out seems like more of a shooter than survival horror game so I am not looking to forward to it.
As for silent hill , It is a great game that is compared to re but is not as much action.I like them both but prefer the re titles more.- 1

I agree this would be a pretty pointless segment lol. Anyway, I think you should obviously play the other version of the first one. The actual first one released on the PS1. Okay, Resident Evil Outbreak is a good place to start, then go to RE4... And wait for Operation Raccoon City. Yeah... You have to skip RE2 and 3 because they didn't release on ps2, wii or xbox.
