January 29, 1996: GT Interactive Software releases "Duke Nukem 3D" for MS-DOS. "Prepare Yourself for Total Meltdown!"

February 01, 1990: Nintendo ships "Super Mario Bros. 3" for the Nintendo Entertainment System in the US. As of 2011, SMB3 remains the highest-grossing non-bundled home video game to date, having grossed $1.7 billion (inflation adjusted).

February 01, 1991: Four members of the computer company Softdisk form id Software. One year later the company would breakout with "Wolfenstein 3D" & go on to create games like "Doom" & "Quake".

February 02, 1994: "Sonic the Hedgehog 3" is released. (Happy Birthday Mom!....lol)

February 04, 2000: "The Sims" is released in the US. In 2002, "The Sims" became the top-selling PC game in history, displacing the game "Myst", by selling more than 6.3 million copies worldwide.

man we have come a long way in games... from super mario bros.3 to mass effect 3 from doom to rage. we gamers have done good for our selfs. oh and happy birth day to your mom.

  1. 1 of the early FPS's of the time released today. And how ironic that it'd be the last 1 to be critically accepted.

    Now that's a game that should be commended! I believe that Super Mario Bros. and Wii Sports had too big of an advantage over any regularly released game. That's why I'll always consider Super Mario Bros. 3 to be the best-selling game of all time.

    This is the primary example of how anyone with talent can accomplish anything. The story of id is a legacy considering they made a successful title on almost nothing and no big team of people. So cutos to them.

    Good old Sonic 3. I own that game in a collection on the GameCube called Sonic Mega Collection. Great game. Oh, and tell your mom I said happy biorthday!

    Can't say much about the Sims, but cutos to them for breaking a record in PC gaming.

  2. Wow, that's a hefty of list of awesome info Rob!

    I remember when I first got Sims. The integrated graphics on my PC was amazing. I had every single expansion pack for the game (still in closet). And my computer was incredibly slow. Oh, the good days.

    Gotta love dem olden days :D

  3. I have super mario bros. 3 for the NES. I like playing that, duck hunt and super mario bros. when I wanna I want to prove I have skills. 3 was my fav out of the super mario bros.
    The sims was in my opinion the best game invented. I used to have all of the sims expantion packs for it. I lent it to a cuz and never got it back. We don't talk anymore.
