I want to start recording my gameplays, how do I start? I dont want to just point a camcorder at the screen

I have heard about this capture card but is there a certain one and how can I capture my voice with the gameplay like commentary style? P.S. I have an xbox360, the one with the hard drive on the side, I know, I know- ancient

I never tried this with a console, just old VHS tapes, but you can buy a device to capture video output (Amazon, search "usb converter video") and attach it to your Xbox output and your PC/Mac. I personally have a Dazzle by Pinnacle and it works pretty well, but it's only supports RCA cables. I am sure there is one that supports HDMI and/or Component input. You should be able to find a HDMI splitter for the Xbox output, or output with the component and HDMI at the same time, so you can have one feed going to the TV and one going to your PC, so your gameplay isn't affected (could be choppy on the PC during recording, but the playback should be fine).

I recommend using included/additional software to record a voice-over track so it's easier to adjust game volumes while you're speaking (if you want to get that sophisticated). Using a voice-over also makes it easier to remove rambling segments, controller noise, mic noise, or other interruptions without removing game audio.

  1. You'll need a capture card. It's not cheap and you'll need to tinker around with it. If you want to put your own commentary, you'll need a post-production package software like After Effects or Final Cut Pro.

  2. Well since you want to capture your voice i would look up roxio but it is only 480p if you want higher def get a hd pvr and edit in your voice.
