Do you 'Spawn Kill' in your favorite FPS?

Are you the type that camps near spawn locations to obliterate your opponents? How do you feel about gamers that do this?

All's fair in love and war, but spawn camping is something I decidedly don't do.

  1. I try not to. When my team goes to the other team's spawn i try to go somewhere else so they get a chance. The only reason is ive been there before and it sucks.

  4. haha, I sometimes do that. I am not the greatest at FPS like Halo and Call of Duty. I was great playing GoW but Halo is mostly a game I spawn kill in and CoD I usually just run around not spawn kill so much. Sometimes it can be annoying but then you just have to find a way around them.

  7. It depends. Is it a game like BF1942 where the spawn point could also be the final capture point? If so then yes, as it's a part of the game design.
    Sitting there just padding points or to grief? No.

  12. I play on CoD games on 360, so it's not as easy to do that which is good, cause I hate when it does happen to me. As for if I do it, Nope. Although when some one from the opposite team spawns in front of you while you are running by...You are not just going to let him go are you? No.

  14. I think there are times when it is appropriate in a tournament environment, but there is pretty much no excuse for it in casual play.

  15. On a very rare occasion. The times I have found myself is usually when the team I am on is easily less skilled than the opposing force (Like there's no way we're winning, might as well get some points). And usually in a game like Call of Duty or something on Xbox.

  16. Spawn camping is a legitimate strategy. It takes skill if you are camping someone with skill. If you are a good enough player, spawn camping is very easy to combat.

  21. I don't, it's cheap but I will admit if I kill a guy and he randomly spawns right in front of me with his back turned I do take the easy kill but I can't help that it's not like I knew that person was going to be at that point or anything.

  23. No. I can't help it if others on my team do but overall the practice of Spawn Killing, all it does is cause frustration in gamers not as adept as you. They might not come back to the game due to this bad practice.

  28. Only a few times, all by accident too! For example, once, I was chasing after one player who started running away, (couldn't land a ranged shot on him with my weapons.) But all of a sudden someone spawned in front of me, and I killed him. Otherwise, I try not to.

  30. Absolutely not. I want to be challenged by a player who is aware of the situation around them and actively hunting me as I am doing the same to him. While it can be argued that spawn kills are a part of the game because if it wasn't something the developers consented there would be a mechanic built in to discourage it, I still feel that argument is like talking about the "spirit" of the law versus the "letter" of the law....

  31. ya I do in tf2, because its usually freaking hard to get to your opponents spawn, and even then the only class that can do it effectively is a demo... Really its part of the game, its really hard to pull off, and you know valve would have taken it out if they wanted : P

  32. Not really, if my team has pushed the enemy team so far back into their base I really can't help but kill them as soon as they spawn, but as far as just like putting mines over spawns or waiting at a known spawn point, no. I never remember where all the spawn points are anyways.

  34. The only spawn kill that was THE best was in Goldeneye. You play with proximity mines, kill your opponents, and wait for them to respawn where you laid the mines. Explosions ftw!

  35. Kinda, but unintentionally.
    In cod4 you have mobile spawns, where if your overrun you spawn somewhere else. My personal goal is always to "capture" that spawn, so i'm constantly running in there trying to get them to spawn elsewhere. So yes i'm spawn killing, but i'm not spawn camping as in sitting in a corner waiting for them to come out of a room. I can't sit still for long anyway. Unless i'm sniping.

  36. I'm not the type to sulk in a corner on the enemies side of the map. But I'm not above staying in the same room or building even if it is their spawn. I don't have as much of a problem with sporadic spawn killing against the winning team. It's the consistent spawn killing that I hate, especially when a poor team won't do anything about it.

  42. Never intentionally, although it's hard not to when someone spawns directly in front of you. I still go for the kill, but I feel bad :$

    Like someone else said, spawn camping is the ultimate noob stat padding strategy. My buddy and were spawn camped once in a match where all our teammates quit out. 6v2, and then they talked crap and called it "spawn trapping". Pretty pathetic, and really takes away from the fun of online gaming.

  53. I made a clan in Action quake called "Camp-A$$".. all we did was camp.. gosh that was so much fun... hahaha!.

    But spawn killing is lame!. we never did that.
