Best Answer First, you need a car with NOS equipped. After you have that. In a race, simply press and hold the button that is mapped to use NOS. Sorry, I forgot the default button. I think it's B? You may just not be noticing the effect. The nos in Shift has a very subtle Visual effect. No flashy graphics. Just a higher engine rev and a nice little push in speed and rpm.
