Should Sony spend time porting PS2 games to Blu-ray?
Sony is gauging interest w/ God of War & God of War II fans by including them on a GOW III collector's edition. I don't see myself spending more money on games I've already purchased unless it was enhanced somehow, but surely there is a market for older PS2 titles on Blu-ray.

I think that if they do, they should put a series on blu ray. Not just a single game, but the whole thing. If they were to do a special edition of GoW3 with that, there should be an extra disc with all the GoW titles with it. How amazing would it be to play Chains of Olympus 1 (and supposedly 2), and then the other 3? Sure, it'd be costly... maybe double the price, but add in trophy support, and maybe some upgrades to the games... people would buy it. I know I would. Maybe put all of Jak and Daxter on a disc, and the Ratchet and Clank games... I think it'd be a really good move by Sony since the emotion engine was taken out. Sure, people aren't fond of rebuying games per se... but if they add content to them so it isn't the exact same thing, maybe sell it cheaper... it'd benefit them. I have a 60gb PS3, so I don't need them to do it... but it'd be nice for those willing to maybe get a series they never picked up and have it be a special edition of the game for their newer console.

Why not, porting older games is how Sega has stayed alive for the past decade.

I'd like to see some of the games ported to Blu-Ray. But then again, I have one of the last backwards-compatible PS3's so it doesn't matter that much to me. I like the idea of including them with sequels of the games though.

Putting them in as bonuses is ok, but not if they're going to try to sell them again as new games (a la Nintendo).

Are you talking about the rumor that old GoW games are going to be put on Blu-Ray and tossed in the CE?

I sound like I'm complaining, but I'm serious: Sony should never have removed backwards compatibility from the PS3. If they hadn't, I would have probably bought one by now. Anyway, I just feel like that totally would've negated any need to re-release PS2 games on Blu-ray.

They shouldn't have gotten rid of backwards compatiblity. I don't understand why they did. To keep the PS2 alive and still get money out of it? Why? It's cannibalizing the Playstation 3. I would have a PS3 NO DOUBT if it could play PS2 games. That would make it a Blu-Ray player and a PS2 for me, and on the very rare occasions that I'd want to play a PS3 game, that too. They just don't have as many great games on the PS3 as they do on the PS2. If they're not going to bring backwards compatibility back, they need to do this Blu-Ray thing with slightly better graphics/sound/etc. (A little like Nintendo's New Play Control, but significantly more enhanced). I never played God of War, and I never will if I can't play the first two on the Playstation 3 (since I'll probably get one as a Blu-Ray player eventually). Simple as that.

I don't think so. However, I think it's ridiculous that software emulation hasn't become a viable option for Sony.

hmm... you know, I'd actully encourage sony for this. as long as they bring good titles to blu-ray. But they'd have to bee like extremely cheap in the stores though, and they'd have to have some kind of extra content. think of it as an upgrade for the game. A bit like the Substance and Subsistence for MGS 2 and 3 on the PS2 did. Just like they would do with an old DVD movie that's being re-released on Blu-Ray.

I would rather they work on PS2 and PS1 backwards compatibility before bringing last generation classics to the PS3 via Blu-ray. There are some issues with the backwards compatibility that is out there now, along with the non-existent on new versions debacle.
Bring it back, even software version is fine, then we can talk about releasing on Blu-ray.

i think it should be something to possibly look into but at the moment i would almost have them be able to put backwards compatibility on the ps3's that dont have backwards compatibility but otherwise i think it would be pretty cool
