Do you think there is room for video games in the education system?

Do you think that games could be used to teach children? Or will they always be 'the enemy'?

They already are. There is a school in NYC that's incorporating video games into its curriculum to teach kids things like physics and math.

  1. I played computer games in my elementary school to do some learning. Mainly simple math, spelling and some "fun" things like coloring. This was like the early/mid 90s and I remember the computers were old Macintosh machines. I never used video games to learn in a school setting after that, but man at the time I thought it was like the funnest way to learn ever.

  2. I fully agree that they do. And as Mobile and Ryo said, it's already happening. I see no problem with this, or society is changing, not for the good or bad, just changing. we need new ways of making education more entertaining... ok, that sounds bad, maybe our society is changing for the worst. but, we still need to keep up with changing to make ourselves viable in the world.

  3. Well, technically yes. And there are already some schools that do that. But personally, i like to play video games for fun. And if you played video games at school and then you went home and played more video games, it would get dull very fast.

You have to change things up. I also think you can incorporate video games in school to younger kids, but once they get to middle school and on, video games shouldn't be in schools. Remember, school prepares you for college, and universities don't have video games, and they won't ever get them.

  4. I think so. When I was in elementary school, I remember playing games to practice spelling and basic arithmetic. I agree with Pope, games could be used for smaller children and maybe even middle school. But it would get harder to make games that cover more advanced topics, and still teach all of the necessary concepts.
