Will the game industry slow, or is it just getting started?
For the first time in like 24 months, sales of video games were down in the month of March. Do you think it was just because the release schedule was bad or are you buying less games these days?
Best Answer
Well last year, 2 highly anticipated games were released, Super Smash Bros and Grand Theft Auto 4, which boosted the sales of the consoles they were released on, but this year, the big titles for each console, Killzone, RE5, Halo Wars, and others, have already been released so in comparison, these months with nothing MAJOR coming out will seem sub par and to analysts may seem like a slow down of game sales. In the end though, I believe that game sales will rise again as more people anticipate bigger named titles later this year.

Both, The best time to release a game is late summer to late fall, kids have summer jobs and people are christmas shopping.

If my spending habits have anything to do with it, it is only beginning. I think we may see a change in the way games are both made and delivered, though. Many of my friends and I are switching more and more to digital delivery of games. Also, I'm seeing a large rise of indie games on the horizon.

It may slow down for awhile, but I think that's always the case for the summer lull, then we'll get the hits this winter and it will pick back up again.

March was AWFUL for all retail in general. The recession is hitting the games industry more than they would like, but I really don't see it being hurt in the long run (ie. 3 years from now).

With almost every major studio laying people off...I'd say it's already slowing.
DLC can help save them right now.
