Will all video cards work on all computers?

I have a Dell Inspiron 531, im getting a new eVGA gtx285 video card along with a new 600 watt PSU (Power Supply) and Intel Core i3. Will it run okay with the computer i have? Or should i get a better motherboard. GAmInG MosTLy MoDErN WaRfArE 2

I have some bad news. if you are SURE you have an Inspiron 531 (and if the info I just checked on it is actually true.)

Unless you also bought a new motherboard, you're i3 will not work on the 531 motherboard. The 531 Motherboard is an Am2, while the i3 requires a 1156 socket. The highest your motherboard supports is the Athlon x2 6400+ which won't be a HUGE jump, but still the best for your board.

Your video card on the other hand, WITH the power supply you are getting, will run just fine. I'm not sure if your current mobo is PCi-e 8x or 16x.. either way though, it will work, and you won't see hardly any loss/benefit if it's 16x or 8x.

So, to recap. an i3 will NOT work. You will have to get a new intel 1156 motherboard. But, with a new PSU, you're gtx285 will work fine.

But, if you're CPU is at least 2.6ghz (5000+) you should be ok for now.

you did mean the 531 and not the 531s right?. cause the "S" model is totally different.
