Anyone have any good strategies for survival mode in L4D?

Specifically in the new map, "The Last Stand."

So far in that map my best time is only about three and a half minutes. My best in any map is about nine and a half minutes.

First off, get a mic. Then get 3 other people who don't suck, and play online with them over a fast connection. Make sure you split the weapons evenly, with 2 shottys and 2 MGs, or 1 MG and 1 sniper rifle if the rifle user isn't a twitchy git.

After that, practice together regularly. Get better at aiming - this is vital, but almost as vital is learning how to conserve ammo and when to reload. Molotovs should be saved for tanks, and pipe bombs should be used for when a member looks to be going down if the situation doesn't change fast. Make sure every member of the team understands and follows the same ROE (Rules of Engagement) - how to use weapons at certain times, how to use bonus items, when to use healing material, the like.

After that, get in there and sweat it out. There's no substitute for practice and swearing at the computer. Remember - mic, 3 friends, good connection, SHOOT STRAIGHT AND CONSERVE AMMO, pipe bombs for bad situations, molotovs for tanks, and lots of luck. Because you'll need luck.

  1. Get a mic! That's probably the most important thing. Next, play with people that also have mics, and play with them frequently. Your best bet is to find 3 friends that also have the game, then work the zombie slaughter down to an art!

  2. Coordination and trial and error. You aren't going to do well on the first try, but maybe you find a specific flow between rooms in the hospital or maybe you work out a good coverage system in the sewers. It all takes practice.

  3. We realized that the best bet is to keep moving.

Start in a good spot, communicate where to go to when the next wave comes. SPLIT UP A BIT when the tank comes - and then MOVE BACK TOGETHER.

Save molotovs for Tanks, unless you have a ton of them. And pipe bombs for when trouble is happening.

    Communication is key.
