Should I buy a DreamCast brand new? If so what are the good games?

Doesn't matter...except that it'll be more expensive. Some good games are
Space Channel 5
Samba de Amigo (both rhythm)
Shenmue
Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 (adventure)
Crazy Taxi
Jet Grind Radio
D is alright, but Resident Evil: Code Veronica is good too.
If you use torrents, you can burn yourself a copy of the unreleased Half-Life port
If you import, Segagaga is weird and good Japanese stuff
Also, the original Soul Calibur is absolutely stellar.

While my heart says that you should buy it, you probably should not buy it new. It died before its time, as it never really got off the ground. It was the first system to have a built-in modem and support online play. The idea of the VMU, while good in theory, was poorly executed. I tried the whole raising a Chao thing with the VMU and all it did was eat the batteries.

Game wise there are a few classics MDK, both Power Stone games, RE: Code Veronica, Sonic Adventure, Vigilante 8: 2nd Offense, and of course the original Soul Caliber.

Man, no need to buy a new one, plenty of used ones floating around. DreamCast was amazing for it's time, but it just never really clicked. You have to get Crazy Taxi and all of the sports games were amazing.

Wow, that thing is old. But that would be pretty cool to get a cherry Dreamcast if you can get games for it.

I think Shenmue on its own is enough. Other than that, definitely check out Jet Grind Radio, Space Channel 5, and Gut's Rage. The Sonic Adventures are pretty cool as well if you haven't tried those.

The Dreamcast was a fantastic system and only failed because of the looming Ps2 and piracy. it had a very weak encryption.

if you are a fan of 2D fighters than the Dreamcast is definately for you.
Marvel vs Capcom 1 and 2.
Street Fighter 3: 3 Strike
Capcom vs SNK 1 and 2.
Vampire Chronicles

Aside from 2D fighters, like everyone else is saying, Shenmue was the gem. such an engrossing game. but, by todays standards, it may not hold that same truth to someone just now going into it. graphics are dated and such. but for those who where right there when it was released it was...like woodstock I guess. haha, really had to be there.

The original Soul Calibur is one of the most herald fighters of all time.
