How to get good weapons in Assassin's Creed 2?

This game doesn't really rely on weapons / leveling up other than being able to buy better armor.

The best weapon in my opinion is ... bare hands! Yep, that's right. Nothing can beat disarming enemies and then killing them with their own weapon.

As you go through the main story missions, more weapons will become available to purchase at the various weapon shops. When browsing one of the stores, you can very easily tell the stats of each weapon, and how they compare to each other.
