How long will it be until people start buying a lot of 3DTVs?

Ubisoft says that there will be a 3DTV in every house in 3 years. Honestly, I don't think that's going to happen. Our movie theater doesn't even have 3D. How long do you think it'll be until people start buying a lot of 3DTVs? 3 years? 5 years? I think it will be 4 years at the least.

3DTVs are very expensive, I just don't think most people will be able to afford them for a while. The idea is popular right now, but I kind of foresee it failing altogether. Is the world ready for 3D? Do most people even care about it that much? I just see it as an over-priced gimmick. I was watching a 3D TV in the Sony store just the other day, it was my first real experience with a 3D TV, and it got old incredibly fast. Yeah, it looks really cool at first, but after a while you just get used to it and it's like you don't even notice that you're watching "3D". I really find 3D pointless. Even seeing a movie in 3D isn't exactly worth the price 95% of the time.

  1. To be honest, I don't think 3D is catching on like companies think. 3D will have to be easily seen (without glasses) and in bigger venues like theaters (again, without glasses) in order for the gimmick to be worth getting at home.

The 3DS hasn't even been released, so we don't even know how a small handheld does in the market, much less 3DTV.

  2. I think once they figure out how to make 3D without glasses and there is a large offering of games/movies/TV shows in 3D, then 3 years after that point is when 'everyone' will have a 3D TV. Right now it doesn't really make sense to buy one because you can only watch a very limited selection of things in 3D.

  3. The reason companies like to say "they will be everywhere in a short amount of time" is a sub-conscience bluff. if they tell you "everyone is going to have one", that kicks in the back of the consumers mind "I better get with it!"

I don't think it's working this time around though. There still too expensive, the 3D movies are too expensive, the player, the glasses. it's all too much, and the need for multiple glasses for the family. it's not going to catch on.

Nintendo actually just screwed all these companies over too, by announcing and soon to be releasing a GLASSES-LESS 3D device, people see it's possible, so they will wait.

WAY TO GO NINTENDO!, screwing over the little guy!.. poor sony..and panasonic,..and all those other huge manufacturing companies.

  4. Wow, i would personally love a 3D tv, they should surely soon be created in the future, i would say maybe 4 years as well, as people pay alot more extra to watch film in 3D. it gives them somthing more to watch somthing different so this would make mre people want to have it. Imagine playing games in 3D. just wow.
