Is Blu-ray already old news?

This article says that Sony has a new laser that can offer 20x the space of Blu-ray discs. I thought Blu-ray held a lot, but if this can hold 20x that, it'll be incredible. What do you think about this? I personally think after this generation, DVD is going to be used incredibly less. (AKA No more DVD in consoles)

It is true that Sony has the possibility to increase BR disc capacity. Last i heard it would be for industrial use to store archives and such. I personally feel BR would have a better chance if they left it alone! As soon as BR got a footing in the market they introduced BluRay3D and now they are talking about higher capacity? Which would require new lasers? Players? Discs?

Way to kill ANOTHER format, Sony. Guess they arent happy with the failures of BetaMax, MiniDisc, UMD's. They gotta throw Bluray under the bus too.

  1. I hadn't heard about that, but that is crazy. I agree that DVD won't be used in consoles after this generation, but I think Blu-ray still has at least a few more years left (most people don't even have Blu-Ray).

  2. Actually, they do seem pretty underrated. Most people don't have one which does'nt suprise, but they show to best picture quality. more than any other DVD player.
