Do the Xbox 360/PS3 get better ventilation sitting on their sides or laying flat?

I think it would probably be when the consoles are vertical. There is less surface area in contact with another surface, so it should be way easier for heat to dissipate without overheating.

  1. Hmmm.. for the older 360's, I would say Horizontal. the holes in the "bottom" of the system aren't really there.

on the Slim 360's I think it's vertical. same with older PS3's, I think vertical gives it much more breathing room since there are holes on the underside. I can't say for sure about the Slim Ps3, I haven't seen one up close and paid attention.

  2. I've done a few tests and here is the best way to lay your console down. If you have a table that has small metal bars going across where it can breath underneath and be horizontal, that's the best. I used to do that, and my console never got warm.

But when people say that horizontal is better than vertical, they are lieing, for the most part. I've done tests and the bottom of the 360 gets sooo hot when you have it horizontal. Once you get a Jasper or Xbox 360 S, you don't even have to mildly worry about console failure though...
