Xbox Live price increase. How do you feel about this?

In November, Microsoft will increase the price of Live by $10 a year. Not a huge increase, the price of a new, quality Xbox game. What do you think about this price change?

I think it sucks. I know Xbox Live has a lot of features (with more coming) but outside of playing games online I don't use any of them. I don't have a Facebook/Twitter account, I don't use Last.fm, I don't use Netflix, and I know already that I'll never use Hulu+ or ESPN, yet I'm stuck having to pay for them.

And since none of my friends have any interest in getting a PlayStation 3, if I want to play online with them it has to be on Xbox 360.

  1. For some reason I thought it was already $60, so I'm not angry about it at all. And it is only $10 bucks, which is a little under a dollar extra per month. I'm just wondering what we are getting for this extra $10.

  2. I'm not worried about an extra 83 cents a month, but I hope this doesn't start a trend of them raising the prices on a regular basis. It's been $50 since launch, which has been about 7 years or so. Hopefully it'll maintain the $60 price point for an equally long time, but I'm not so sure now that there's a precedent for them to raise the price when adding new features. I know I'll definitely be out for good if the price reaches $80-$100 a year, that's just too much to ask.

  3. I am actually not too happy with it.
Sure, they are adding ESPN... and.. Hulu next year. But I won't be using espn at all and if I have a problem to Hulu separately anyways, what am I really getting?

  4. I'm usually finding discounted pre-paid cards on places like Amazon, so this shouldn't effect me too much. No one should pay full price for Xbox LIVE if they can help it.

  5. Uhh, i was just about to ask this =P

But, i didn't see this coming. I mean, did you see any articles suggesting this? I didn't. I find this kind of disturbing though. Many of my Xbox Live friends are too cheap to pay $50 a year, opposed to $60 a year.

I hope this doesn't happen any more. If it does, i'll have to drop one of my Gold accounts. (I don't really use one of them anyways, i just keep it gold just in case) Xbox Live better become a really good service if i pay $60 a year for it.

  6. It should be tiered like the PSN is. I don't use the Facebook/Twitter or LastFM features and most likely won't use the ESPN feature (No NFL).

  7. Gosh it makes me very angry because i have gotten my x box yet and i really don't feel like spending the money but if it gets me to play with Sergeant pope on reach then i will pay the pretty penny.
