Is banning users playing a game before it came out the right thing to do?
I just read an article saying people are playing Halo Reach...now...and those that are will be banned from Xbox Live permanently. Is this fair?

Perfectly fair. According to Microsoft, they can tell the difference between a legitimate and pirated copy of a game. If a retailer sells you the game early, you won't get banned. The only people they're banning for early play are people with a pirated copy of the game. I think the article backs that up too. It's in Xbox Live's terms of service that modding your console/playing pirated games is not allowed, and if you do you can continue using your console, but they have the right to ban you from Live.

No. If a retailer is selling the game ahead of the street date, players shouldn't be expected to wait until the street date to pop it in. Punish the retailer, not the player.

It depends. If they were given the game before it came out, which has happened to me many times, they shouldn't be banned or punished at all. If they stole the game or illegally downloaded it, then yes.

If they got illegitimate copies like the article says then I think it is completely fair. They didn't pay for the game and therefore should not be able to play online with everyone that did pay for it.

I think it is because i think you are talking about the people who stole(Pirated) the games. That is against the law in every way so they should just be lucky that they weren't arrested it is just stupid i mean its halo. WTF and they are really stupid for going online with it that is a DUH for the start unlike PSN Microsoft ban people left and right so they weren't smart about it at all i think that it is perfectly fair.
