Would Yakuza 3 have a chance on the western market?
SEGA thinks that this game, like its two prequels, wouldn't succeed over here because it's too different from what western gamers like to play. What's your take on it?

I played the demo and loved it... Sure, I didn't understand the dialog, but it was easy to figure out the gist of where things were going... fighting was pretty ridiculous, but in a good way. Dating sim was ... interesting. Got a perfect on it. I'm sure there are probably parts of it that wouldn't make sense to American's (in fact I know there are, I know a guy from Japan that played it...), but I doubt it'd ruin the game for the majority of people playing it. I'm sure it wouldn't sell consoles here in the states seeing as how the other two didn't do wonders here, but with a limited release I'm sure Sega could make some money off of it. I'd love to play it. They could just sub it and change the menus to English and I'm sure it'd sell just as well, if not better than if they dubbed it.

I have both 1 and 2 (and love them both). They're essentially just beat-em-ups, so saying that Western gamers don't like to play those types of games makes no sense.
I think the blame for how poorly 1 and 2 sold in the states can be put on Sega's marketing efforts.
Frankly, the PS3 needs games like Yakuza 3 right now, considering how new the PS3 is compared to the PS2's age when Yakuza 1 came out. Game buyers might actually take notice of 3 due to there not being tons of good games available for PS3 yet.- 1
