What's the worst strategy guide you've ever used or purchased?

I typically don't use guides, but when I was younger I was given one for Final Fantasy IX. It was a BradyGames copy that beckoned me to visit PlayOnline.com at every turn. It left out so much useful and interesting information that to this day I disregard its legitimacy completely. I mean, how useless is a guide you buy that tells you to look online? If I wanted to do that, I would just visit GameFAQs. What's the worst guide you've ever had?

I agree with the FF IX one... although it helps for the most part, you don't need to go to play online. I never did. But the set up of it... "Here's this boss... he's pretty hard, you'll probably want some help... so go to Play Online!!!!!!!1111!1111" Um... or you could tell me how to beat him right here since I paid... If I wanted to look online I'd just go to gamefaqs because that's free. Pretty much any first person game (other than an RPG, such as something from Bethesda) is usually a waste of money. I'd say the only real reason to get one is if you're playing an RPG, want to collect guides, or it is really, really cheap.

  1. Haha, I had that same FF IX guide...I even lowered myself to their standards and joined their PlayOnline cult. I remember how frustrating that was to have a guide that told you to go online to read the strategy. But somehow I got suckered in to buying a guide for Halo 2 and that was the worst guide I've ever purchased. There is practically nothing in Halo that you need a guide for except the skulls, which I did't care about. So I think I opened that guide once and never looked at it again.

  2. Within the month that it came out, I bought Dark Age of Camelot, along with a BradyGames guide packaged in with it. I took it home, opened it up, read the guide, and logged in, and by the time I logged in the guide was COMPLETELY inaccurate. Powers came at the wrong times, with the wrong numbers, craft skills had the wrong items listed needed.. it was like they wrote the guide in early beta and never bothered to recheck it. There was also a lot of 'advice' about how to play the classes, and they were terribly wrong. Terribly, terribly wrong. As in one of the caster classes advised moving into melee range when the enemy was almost dead because they did decent damage. noooo they didn't, not with a staff and cloth armor. DAoC itself was a great game, but that guide wasn't worth the paper it was printed on.

  3. Our Mass Effect guide wasnt bad. It just looked horrible. I can't put my finger on it, but the guide is just plain ugly to me.
