Has there been a game that's made you buy a console?
I'm wondering if a game being exclusive to a specific console has encouraged you to go out and buy that console.
Ex. Halo, I know this game made a lot of my friends buy the xbox. For me, Ratchet and Clank: Future Tools of Destruction pushed me over the edge for buying the PS3.

Every system I've bought has been for games that were either out or going to be out... one that I bought just for the game though, was the PSP. Bought it and Crisis Core the day it came out. I'm a sucker for FF VII... I've bought other games for it too, such as GoW: CoO, and MGS: PO... Loco Roco, Patapon, Castlevania... I have about 15 games for it. I've only beat Crisis Core and played that, Daxter, Loco Roco, and Star Ocean. Actually, I may have bought the PSP for the Star Ocean games too. The Second is possibly my favorite game of all time for PS1, and I've always wanted to play the first. So I bought that and rebought the second... But there's something about playing a portable system that I just haven't gotten into in quite some time. I guess it's the fact that I have so many PS2/PS3 games in my room that I just want to play those instead of my PSP... and I'm never really out and about enough to play the PSP. But yes, games are the reason I buy any system. Why would I buy one if I didn't like the games?

Absolutely yes.
Mario 64 made me get a Nintendo 64.
Metroid Prime made me get a GameCube.
ATV Offroad Fury made me get a PlayStation 2.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion made me get an Xbox 360.
The Road Warrior on Blu-ray made me get a PlayStation 3.

I bought the PS3 for MGS4...specifically the MGS4 bundle. Getting such an amazing game plus the last backwards compatible PS3 model plus the, then, newly released dualshock 3 made it a spectacular deal.

The one that stands out most for me was Super Mario 64. I drooled over each and every screenshot of that game (when game mags were still more popular than the interwebs), and would have bought whatever system it was for (even a 3DO), no matter the cost.
To this day, Mario 64 is still one of my favorite games ever.- 1

Some PS3 exclusives have made me want to pick one up, but then I take into account how much it'd cost just to play those few games and I talk myself out of it. Maybe when I run out of xbox games to play.

No...But i know cases that that was avery important factor in what concers in buying a console....Some of them look to games like Metal Gear Solid to a PS3, Halo for Xbox360....indeed these are the kind of games that make gamers buy one of the consoles...Other factor is the price i think...maybe with this economic madness people will look more at price that at games exclusive or any kind of game.

Absolutely. There are even games from previous generation consoles that I have bought the system years later and a copy of the game to play it. I still bust out the Sega Saturn, and Sega CD to play some of those games....

Super Mario World made me want a Super.
Legend of Zelda: Orcania of Time made me want an N64.
Wreckless and Halo made me want an Xbox.
Fight Night Round 3's incredible graphics made me get an Xbox 360.
And a Blu-Ray player made me want...well, a blu-ray player, and the Ps3 was the best bet, because it could play some games too.- 0

I bought the 360 for Oblivion, PS2 for MGS 2, and Playstation for Final Fantasy VII to name more recent examples. But usually consoles have to have a lot of other games that I want to back them up before I'll buy them, but generally I buy them with one initial purchase I'm dying to play.

MGS4 made the decision easy for me. I played part 1 and didn't want a console where I couldn't play the new MGS game.

LittleBig Planet made me buy the Playstation 3, but after playing it for a while I don't think that game alone justified buying the PS3 in the first place.

Definitely. I bought a Xbox 360 for the Fable games and a PSP for FF: Crisis Core.....plus I wanted them anyway just in case a cool exclusive game came out for either console. Still hasn't been a game that has forced me to get a PS3 yet but I have to get one eventually.

Final Fantasy: Crisis Core made me get a PSP. (I ended up hating the game, loving the system.)
The only other system I got strictly based on games was the PS3, for GTA4, MGS4, and Final Fantasy XIII. (The X360 exclusives didn't appeal to me as much.) Of course now only one of those is exclusive, but I'm glad I played MGS4.

It's happened; but I always know that, even if I'm buying the console for the purpose of a particular game, I will still be buying more games that seem interesting for said console in the future.
With that said, yes. I actually bought my PSP for Silent Hill: 0rigins. Being the SH fan that I am, I bought the game shortly after the release date, and a PSP to play it on. After a while, the game was released on the PS2, which kind of ticked me off. But I was happy to have a PSP, but not too long later, Crisis Core came out.
I also bought a Wii pretty much for Smash Bros. Brawl I bought mine first chance I got before SSBB was released, but having the system allowed me to buy the game the minute it was out (I went to a midnight release for that one) and play it as soon as I got home.
Further into the past, I got my Gameboy Color (Which was my first system) pretty much for the soul purpose of playing Pokemon Gold and Silver. This is an example of a system that I didn't end up getting many other games for.- 0

No, it's the spread of games which makes my mind up, not individual titles. The first time it came to buying a new system was the PS1 era, and it was the PS1 which got my vote due to a spread of games in different genres (even Jumping Flash). The PS2 then got my cash because virtually everything was on that particular system.
The PS3 I skipped, Sony missed the mark with an overpriced cut-down bluray player, seemingly believing their own BS about it being a multiple-application device. Consoles are bought for gaming. Instead I got the 360, which is doing what the PS2 did - offering an affordable console with the bulk of the releases in different genres.
One thing I don't get swayed by is a handful of 'big-gun' exclusives. Metal Gear Solid I could not give a fig for, I'm far more interested in Oneechanbara and Earth Defense Force, both of which are budget and neither of which came out for the PS3.

Yes, I was a Huge Playstation 2 fan and thought the Xbox was a PS2 wannabe, but then Halo came out. So I got an Xbox for Halo. Also I did not want to get an Xbox 360 until Gears of War came out. I think it was mostly because of the commercial for it. The one with Madworld song, I was sold.

Halo 3 got me to buy my Xbox 360 on Halo 3's launch. Too bad Halo 3 couldn't hold water against it's predecessor... Now Call of Duty 4 reigns as champ.

I bought the XBox 360 a few hours before Fable 2 came out. I had my husband at home setting it up while I was waiting up at the GameStop for the midnight release.
