What is 7 Little Words?

7 Little Words is a daily word puzzle from Blue Ox Family Games that mixes a crossword, an anagram and a word search. Each puzzle gives you seven clues, seven mystery words and twenty letter groups. You build each answer by combining two or three of the letter groups, and every group is used exactly once.

The game has been running since 2011 across its app, website and syndicated newspaper editions, with separate US and UK daily puzzles. Clues are short and definitional, so the challenge is in spotting which tiles join together.

How to play 7 Little Words

Read a clue, then look at the letter tiles for fragments that could form the answer. Tap the tiles in order to spell the word; if you are right it locks in and those tiles disappear. Finish all seven and the puzzle is complete. Each clue shows the number of letters in its answer, which is the most useful hint you get.

When does the new 7 Little Words come out?

A new 7 Little Words puzzle is released every day at midnight Eastern Time. We publish hints and answers as soon as the puzzle is available and keep every previous day in the archive above.

7 Little Words strategy and tips

1. 1Count the lettersEvery clue shows the answer length. A nine-letter answer needs three tiles, so look for a three-tile combination.
2. 2Find the rare tilesTiles with Q, X or Z have few possible partners. Place them first.
3. 3Start with endingsTiles like ING, TION and NESS almost always end a word. Pair them with the clue that fits.
4. 4Eliminate as you goEach solved word removes its tiles, so the last two or three clues often solve themselves.
