151 entriesWhat is Catalogues?
Catalogues is a free daily ordering game from The New Yorker. You are dealt seven items and must arrange them in the correct order according to a hidden rule, such as highest to lowest, oldest to newest or fewest to most. The theme is revealed with a title and a hint, and each item carries a value once the puzzle is solved.
The game launched in May 2026 and is written by a small team of constructors, with themes ranging from geography to pop culture.
How to play Catalogues
Read the theme hint, then drag the seven cards into order. Submit to check; the game tells you how many are in the right place. Some puzzles accept the reverse order as well.
When does the new Catalogues come out?
A new Catalogues puzzle is published every day at midnight Eastern Time. We publish hints and answers as soon as the puzzle is available and keep every previous day in the archive above.
Catalogues strategy and tips
- 1Anchor the extremesPlace the item you are sure is first and the one you are sure is last, then fill the middle.
- 2Read the hint literally“By number of holes” means counting, not size. Take the hint at face value.
- 3Group before orderingSort the items into rough tiers, then order within each tier.
- 4Use the feedbackThe count of correct positions after each submit narrows the possibilities fast.
- 5Check reversibilityIf the theme is symmetrical, the reverse order might be accepted.
