What is Crossclimb?

Crossclimb is LinkedIn's daily word-ladder puzzle. You solve a set of short crossword-style clues, each with a word of the same length, then arrange the words so that each one differs from the next by a single letter. Finally, two locked rungs at the top and bottom are revealed by a shared clue, completing the ladder.

The game launched in May 2024 with Pinpoint and Queens. Most puzzles use four- or five-letter words and seven rungs, and the whole thing takes a couple of minutes once you see the ladder.

How to play Crossclimb

Type an answer for each clue; the middle rungs are shown in a scrambled order. Once all the middle words are filled, drag them into an order where every neighbouring pair differs by exactly one letter. The top and bottom rungs then unlock with a single clue describing both words, each one letter away from the rung next to it.

When does the new Crossclimb come out?

A new Crossclimb unlocks at midnight in your local time zone. We publish hints and answers as soon as the puzzle is available and keep every previous day in the archive above.

Crossclimb strategy and tips

  1. 1Solve the easy clues firstEven two or three confirmed words show you what letters the ladder changes, which makes the harder clues easier.
  2. 2Find the chain, not the orderPair up words that differ by one letter. The ladder usually has only one valid sequence.
  3. 3The ends share a themeThe top and bottom words are linked by one clue, often a pair like JACK and KING or BEEF and PORK.
  4. 4Count letter changesIf a word differs from every other word by two letters, it is probably wrong.
  5. 5Use the scrambleThe scrambled order is random, so do not read meaning into where a word appears.
