What is Monkey Wrench?

Monkey Wrench is a daily word search from Blue Ox Family Games, the makers of 7 Little Words. Instead of a square grid, the letters sit in a honeycomb of hexagons, and instead of a plain word list you get a set of categories, each with a count of how many words belong to it.

Words snake through adjacent hexagons in any direction, and the puzzle is complete when every category is filled.

How to play Monkey Wrench

Read the categories and their word counts. Drag through connected hexagons to spell a word; if it belongs to a category it locks in. Every letter on the board is used exactly once across all the words.

When does the new Monkey Wrench come out?

A new Monkey Wrench puzzle is released every day at midnight Eastern Time. We publish hints and answers as soon as the puzzle is available and keep every previous day in the archive above.

Monkey Wrench strategy and tips

1Start with the specific categoriesA category like "Shakespeare plays" has fewer possibilities than "Things that are red".
2Follow the shapeLong words bend around the honeycomb. Trace a path before committing.
3Use the edgesLetters on the border have fewer neighbours, so words through them are easier to pin down.
4Count remaining lettersAs the board empties, the leftover letters reveal the last words.
